With Mandy’s incredible version produced by Fred Mollin and released through his new label Melody Place, country fans are tuning into this rejuvenated classic, a signature chart topper in both country and pop in 1963 for the legendary Skeeter Davis.

Luminous. She towers over most of the competition as a Nashville Sound chanteuse. The song is a gorgeous Skeeter Davis classic from 1963. No current country stylist could bring it back more beautifully. The strings are super, too.”

Robert K. Oermann – Music Row

“She takes her fans and listeners on a trip down memory lane with her distinct version of Skeeter Davis’ 1963 crossover hit single “The End of the World.” It is evident that Barnett has one of the most controlled and trained voices in the contemporary music scene, and she is able to breathe fresh life into this classic, where she truly makes it her own. Most importantly, she proves that she is a song stylist.

The Verdict

Overall, Mandy Barnett delivers on “The End of the World.” Grab a bottle of wine and let Barnett lure you in. It is a beautiful and fitting tribute to the late but great Skeeter Davis. Barnett’s rendition is resonant, nostalgic and refreshing and it garners an A rating.”

Markos Papadatos – Digital Journal

“I don’t often include singles, but Barnett’s cover of this Skeeter Davis classic is just too good not to mention. It appears to be a one-off, recorded during the sessions for a 2020 album of torch songs originally recorded by Billie Holiday, with a 60-piece orchestra. Luxurious is an understatement.”

No Depression

“Barnett’s recording of the 1963 classic showcases her smooth, rich voice, which makes the easy transition between pure country music and the timeless transition of Billie Holiday. Her rendition, with the full string orchestra, maintains country flavor with the traditional sound of piano and steel guitar.”

Music City Music Magazine

Barnett calls this her “love letter” to classic country music.  This release was an opportunity for the songstress to thank Ken Burns, who Barnett recently performed for at the request of PBS, in support of his sweeping documentary series, Country Music. Barnett hopes this single will continue to celebrate the music, which Burns is now highlighting, and that she has devotedly performed over the years.

About Mandy Barnett

Mandy Barnett first gained national prominence as the original star of the musical “Always…Patsy Cline” at Nashville’s famed Ryman Auditorium.  Barnett, as Cline, performed on the original cast soundtrack album and was the only actress to have played the role on the historic Ryman stage where Cline’s legend began.

Barnett’s style is rooted in the classic country and pop crooning of iconic singers and timeless sounds.  With The End Of The World, Barnett delivers a powerhouse performance that she is so well known for. The Chicago Tribune calls Barnett “a torch singer in the grandest sense of the word.”  Time, People, Billboard, Rolling Stone, and many others extol Barnett’s world-class vocals, “natural musicality” (People), “big, silky, expressive voice” (Billboard), and “vocal finesse” (New York Times).  USA Today calls Barnett one of Nashville’s “finest classic country and torch singers,” while the Austin Chronicle notes that “when people start talking about Mandy Barnett, eventually the word ‘amazing’ gets used.”

With a string of acclaimed country albums, there’s no doubt Barnett has mastered that genre and holds it dear to her heart.  A frequent guest on the Grand Ole Opry, Barnett’s music has been featured in many major film and television soundtracks including The CW Network’s series “The Flash”. She has appeared on “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show,” “CBS Sunday Morning,” PBS’s “Sessions at West 54th,” PBS’s “Bluegrass Underground,” and numerous other programs.

Barnett recently made her New York City cabaret debut at Feinstein’s/54 Below this year with an acoustic version of her “Nashville Songbook” concert, to standing ovations.  No doubt with new appreciation for this treasure trove of classic country hits, her version of The End Of The World will resonate with audiences once again.

Next up for Barnett is an album of torch songs originally recorded by Billie Holiday and performed with a spectacular 60-piece orchestra, arranged by the iconic 95-year-old Sammy Nestico and once again produced by Mollin, who founded Melody Place with Leigh Shockey.
