Shelby Lee Lowe Brings Neo-Traditional Country Sounds to the Forefront of His New EP “Something in Me”

Shelby Lee Lowe’s new EP Something In Me premiered on all online retailers today and he secured coveted spots on the Academy of Country Music’s official ACM New Music Friday  and Whiskey Riff’s New Music Friday playlists. Shelby kicked off his launch week, on this Andrew Scott Willis produced project, on Sunday, October 11 sharing the title track exclusively with Vents Magazine where he talked about the genesis of the project.

Something in Me is really the song that set this project in motion. I brought this idea to a Zoom co-write from my bedroom with Andy Wills and Rick Huckaby and it came together so well that I knew I had to cut it. It’s about finding a real connection when someone is brave enough to look past all of your imperfections.”

Then, on Thursday, October 15, Shelby shared a double barrel of exclusives premiering his next single Could’ve Fooled Me with American Songwriter Magazine and the EPs final track You’re Not Gone with Raised Rowdy.

American Songwriter wrote: “It’s easy to recognize the spirits of Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Buck Owens in his sound. Yet, there’s also an edge to the Lowe style that wouldn’t seem out of place on an old college radio show in between cuts from Tarantino and Uncle Tupelo as well. And it is that sense of duality that propels the feel of his excellent new single Could’ve Fooled Me.”

Shelby shared with American Songwriter the inspiration of the storyline in Could’ve Fooled Me: ““I’ve played in bars and clubs where people two step and slow dance for years, and I’ve seen the scenario of this song played out before. I’ve met folks who are ‘just friends’ that get together to dance until they dance and drink a little too much. I wanted to put myself in the shoes of someone that’s in love with someone who isn’t ready to commit. We tried to write a song that anyone who has ever had a hard time attempting love after being scorned or anyone who has ever wanted someone more than they wanted them could relate to within the story that we wrote in Could’ve Fooled Me.”

Raised Rowdy continued the spotlight on Shelby in their premiere of the final track You’re Not Gone stating: “If you’ve listened to any of Shelby Lee Lowe’s recent releases, it’s immediately clear that the rural Tennessee native has his own distinctive style: flat-out, true-blue country music that’s heavy on the honky-tonk and easy on the ears.”

This father and rural Tennessee native took the time in quarantine to focus on songwriting spending a lot of time on zoom co-writing with Rick Huckaby (“Beer With Jesus” by Thomas Rhett & “Muddy Water” by Trace Adkins), songwriter/producer Andrew Scott Wills (“Blue Bandana” by Jerrod Niemann & “Selfish” by Stephanie Quayle) as well as tunesmith and Music Row Magazine founder David Ross.

About Shelby Lee Lowe

This Possum Trot, Tenn. native and father is a country songwriter and performer who delivers a sound that can best be described as a modern adaptation of traditional country. Shelby would first pick up the guitar and start honing his craft in high school under the mentorship of his great uncle, a penitentiary worker who had formed a band with some of the inmates. A graduate of MTSU’s Recording Industry program, Shelby has acquired publishing and booking deals since the release of his debut, self-titled album in 2016. Influenced by the Bakersfield sound, Shelby would find his own lane in the genre and put in the grassroots work securing opening slots for Charlie Daniels, Brett Young, Michael Ray, Chris Janson, Darryl Worley & Sister Hazel. He has also performed on stages and for branded partnerships such as the Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR’s Speed Street (Charlotte, NC), Atlanta Braves, Sturgis, CMA Fest, The Harley Davidson Independence Day Bash and more. Shelby currently serves as a brand ambassador for Durango Boots, Kyser Capos, PRA Audio Systems & Tunz by Starkey Hearing Technologies. Using the quarantine time to create new music, he delivered a new EP titled Something in Me on October 16 under the production wings of Andrew Scott Willis (Jerrod Niemann, Lucas Hoge & Stephanie Quayle).
