Ghosts, Legends and History Come Alive at Two Rivers Mansion’s Annual Spirt Legends Tours

Historic Nashville landmark invites guests for daytime tours and special “After Dark” experiences this October

With pumpkin spice in your cup and a cool fall breeze in the air, it is the perfect time to make a pilgrimage to one of Tennessee’s most historic treasures for the annual Spirit Legends Tours at Two Rivers Mansion. Hosted by the Friends of Two Rivers, this year’s tours begin October 6, 2025, and run Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesdays each week throughout the month with special hours on Halloween Day.

Daytime Spirit Legends tours will be offered at 12 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. for an admission cost of $15 or free for Friends of Two Rivers members. Guests will be treated to a blend of history and folklore, exploring the stories and mysteries that have surrounded the Mansion for more than a century.

In addition to the daily tours, a special After Dark experience will take place on October 17, 18, and 19 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This limited-engagement evening tour is designed for both history buffs and paranormal enthusiasts. Visitors will walk the historic halls by lantern light, encountering legends, real history, and chilling tales of unexplained occurrences. Admission for the After Dark tours is $25 for the general public and $15 for Friends of Two Rivers members.

“The Friends of Two Rivers are excited to again offer our Spirit Legends Tours, which will be both a learning experience about the rich history of the Two Rivers Mansion property, but also with some unique stories that will intrigue visitors as to their origins,” says Jeff Syracuse, President-elect, Friends of Two Rivers. “Our special nighttime tours will go a step further to entertain guests with both the real history but also mixed with paranormal experiences.”

These immersive experiences reflect the mission of the Friends of Two Rivers to preserve, protect, and share Two Rivers Mansion and its heritage while offering the community one-of-a-kind events steeped in culture, history, and legend.

This year’s tours come on the heels of a major two-year restoration project at the Mansion. The work included a full restoration of the historic porches and roof, returning the exterior to its 19th-century grandeur. Inside, an unused portion of the second floor was reclaimed, including the restoration of a fifth bedroom with new plaster and historically inspired wallpaper. Additional repairs were made throughout the upstairs rooms, ensuring that the Mansion remains both structurally sound and historically authentic for generations to come.

Through these efforts and community support, Two Rivers Mansion stands today as not only a site of extraordinary history and beauty, but also as a stage for the unforgettable stories that continue to captivate visitors year after year.

ABOUT TWO RIVERS MANSION

The historic mansion, located next to the original 1802 Federal Style brick home on the property, was originally completed in 1859 by David McGavock after an 8-year build, was inhabited by the McGavock family for three generations until 1965 and purchased by the Metropolitan Government of Nashville in 1966. Two Rivers Mansion is one of the earliest and best preserved of the early Italianate houses in Middle Tennessee, was part of an 1100-acre plantation located on fertile, rolling land between the Stones and Cumberland Rivers. The Junction of the two rivers suggested the name given to the place by an early owner, William Harding.

ABOUT FRIENDS OF TWO RIVERS

Friends of Two Rivers was established in 2010 to protect, preserve, restore, and promote the historic Two Rivers Mansion in partnership with the Metro Parks Department and the Metro Historical Commission. The organization was officially incorporated on August 20, 2010, and received 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status later that year. Since then, its mission has expanded to include the historic Stone Hall site, located on the scenic bluffs of the Stones River. Today, Friends of Two Rivers is dedicated to honoring and sharing Nashville’s rich past by preserving these treasured landmarks through community engagement, fundraising, and educational initiatives.
