“Life is so much sweeter with cookies.” — Local on 2
On a beautiful, sunny September morning, Dirty Dough was rewarded for their good Samaritan work with an appearance on Channel 2 News.
In response to a recent story about the Franklin-based cookie shop’s charitable deeds, which include donating product to welcome teachers back to school, Dirty Dough was asked to appear on WKRN’s morning lifestyle show “Local on 2.”
Lovely co-hosts Stephanie Langston and Laura Schweizer cover pop culture and local trends straight from Tennessee and Southern Kentucky. Langston, who has an insatiable sweet tooth, was particularly excited to try out Dirty Dough’s confections and affirmed, “Those cookies are amazing!”
For the Dirty Dough crew, it was a milestone for co-owner Brittany Cotter and General Manager and trained Pastry Chef Katelyn Gregory to appear on a show that is a part of so many viewers’ morning routines. The pair put in the time and effort to make sure the segment went off without a hitch, and they got their heartfelt message across. Their goal to embrace the messiness of life is expressed by their artfully undone cookies.
“All of our cookies are a little bit imperfect, stuffed with character, and have a soft center on the inside, just like all people, because it’s what’s on the inside that counts,” explained Gregory.
Dirty Dough is a purposely unpolished brand whose layered, stuffed cookies are known for their innovative recipes. On “Local on 2,” mouth-watering flavors were on display, including treasures such as the PB Overload, a chocolate cookie stuffed with a warm peanut butter center; the Cherry Cheesecake, which has a graham cracker crust with a cheesecake filling and cherry topping; and their best-selling Cookies and Cream, a decadent vanilla cookie with Oreos on the inside.
Adding even more sweetness, as the Dirty Dough team explained, the company is known for its philanthropic contributions, which tend to focus on its mission of promoting mental health. Dirty Dough’s connection with the community attracted the “Local on 2” producers, who were excited to learn more about their monthly philanthropic endeavors, like “Cookies that Care,” a program that partners with a new nonprofit every month.
The hosts were excited to learn about how Dirty Dough, which opened their first Tennessee outpost this year (209 S Royal Oaks Blvd #250, Franklin, TN 37064), has since engaged with the community through “Teacher Appreciation Day” and donating cookies to choir and cheer teams. As co-owner, Cotter explained, it is just in her nature to engage through volunteer commitments, which is a part of her family’s value system.
“After instilling service in our own kids through regularly volunteering with foster care organizations and Best Buddy programs,” explains Cotter, “I am excited to use Dirty Dough as a vessel to instill this message in others.”
The company will continue to embrace the “It’s what’s inside that counts” mission by creating opportunities to partner with local charities.
