In the wake of the release earlier this year of her 6th album, Not What I Do, Laura Sawosko, has received five nominations in the Josie Music Awards, which will be held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Sunday, November 2nd.
Sawosko received nods for Americana Female Artist of the Year, Americana Album of the Year, Americana Song of the Year, Music Video of the Year and Social Impact Song of the Year.
“’Not What I Do”’ is my most authentic album to date and I am so grateful to have it received so generously,” Laura says. “My goal for this body of work was for my songs to be heard and appreciated. These nominations far exceed any expectations I had and I am so grateful.”
Not What I Do is a reflection of her personal journey and showcases her storytelling process, blending Americana and country influences with unapologetic authenticity.
Among the 12 original tracks is the poignant “Take My Hand.” a heartfelt tribute to the writer’s own father. The official music video for “Take My Hand” reached the Top 10 on the Country Music Channel (CMCTV) airplay chart.
Laura’s music is a reflection of her commitment to honesty, both in her songwriting and in her life. Laura is passionate about supporting women in the music industry. She’s also an advocate for the LGBTQ community, with a particular focus on teen suicide prevention, having faced her own personal struggles with anxiety and panic attacks when coming out. These themes resonate deeply throughout Not What I Do, making the album not just a collection of songs but an anthem for anyone who has ever felt misunderstood.
Laura’s musical journey has seen her evolve as both an artist and a person. She has performed in numerous iconic Nashville venues such as The Bluebird Café and The Listening Room, as well as the legendary Lipstick Lounge where she hosted her album release party.
Laura was recently signed to a publishing deal with Soundcrest Music Publishing with a goal of seeing her intimate, insightful and sometimes cheeky songs placed in film, video and television.
Lyrics for Laura’s original Song, “The Songwriters” have been added to a unique collection in Nashville. Motif on the Row, a boutique hotel that sits in the footprint of Nashville’s former UA Tower, where so many songs were written and deals were made, is now the home of “Lyric Lane,” a one-of-a-kind collection of handwritten lyrics from some of Nashville’s most legendary hit writers. Sawosko’s “The Songwriters” pays tribute to the many creatives who toil on their own or with co-writers with the dream of hearing their words recorded and released to the world. A music video for the tune is forthcoming.
Not What I Do is available now wherever great music is sold and streamed.
