PLA Media’s Scoop

The Scoop
How about you? I’m a bit tired of the bad news all day, all the time. While I don’t advocate sticking one’s head in the sand, the relentless hand wringing seems counter productive too. Too often, the negativity and salacious headlines are all about ratings and creating controversy. I have chosen to take a breather and am pretty selective how much I read and watch to avoid becoming incredibly discouraged. I challenge us all to take a breather from the news at least once a week. How about starting your weekend on a happy note with a “News Free Friday”? Let’s send a message to the media outlets to start doing stories about hope, encouragement and something positive. Negativity is contagious and so is hope. Pass it on… RECENTLY SPOTTED BUMPER STICKERS: Remember who you wanted to be? We are spiritual beings having a physical experience. Reduce, reuse, recycle, respect

Sandy recently wrapped up a great performance at the Bluebird Cafe last month with a special appearance by Crystal Gayle. Walden: The Ballad of Thoreau, a play written and directed by folksinger, radio host, entrepreneur, and environmentalist Michael Johnathon, penetrates all media formats for an Earth Day celebration. Johnathon teamed up with the Earth Day Network and now every home with a computer will be able to stream the play on April 22nd for free at www.earthdaytv.net. For those that do not want to sit in front of a computer screen, the play is being offered through NETA to television stations across the globe, so check your local listing for potential air dates. n addition, select theaters are joining Johnathon’s efforts to encourage environmental activism by showing a high definition filming of the play. Call your local theater for times. His offering doesn’t end there, because you can also hear the play performed as an old time radio show on various public radio stations. The key this spring is to impact as many homes as possible and encourage the globe to embrace environmentally friendly choices.
You can visit www.waldenplay.com for additional details. There you can also purchase a copy of the play and host your own Walden Party. For every DVD purchased an additional copy is sent free of charge to schools across the states. “In an age of global warming concerns, bio-fuels, hybrid cars and oil wars the Walden play can introduce audiences to Thoreau as well as environmental concerns in their own home towns,” says Johnathon. “We live in an age of obvious change, but sometimes the oldest lessons learned remain the wisest.” |
