Back in 2008, I decided I missed academia, and needed to expand my brain a bit. After researching some options, I entered the Belmont University Scarlett Leadership Institute’s “Mini” MBA Program, named after business leadership visionary Joe Scarlett. Joe spent nearly thirty years in leadership roles with Tractor Supply Company most of it as President and Chairman. Today he is engaged in teaching and writing about leadership, working in the family foundation and striving to improve Tennessee. (joescarlett.com)

I enjoyed the process immensely. During the class we were given a card outlining Joe’s philosophy of life and business. The Mission Statement may be geared more specifically toward a tractor supply company, but at its core, is applicable to almost any business. The Values not only apply to business, but to life. This card hangs in my office and I refer back to it regularly.
