Objective:

To launch a global grassroots movement for American music tourism and build an online community dedicated to the Americana Music Triangle’s culture and history through marketing, publicity and social media campaigns, including a five-day, five-state launch tour.

About the Americana Music Triangle

Nine original genres of music. 1500 miles of highway. One resource to explore it all.

From the moon, it’s just a triangle. But this tiny sliver of the Southeastern United States left its permanent mark on the world as the birthplace of Blues, Jazz, Country, Rock ‘N’ Roll, R&B/Soul, Gospel, Southern Gospel, Cajun/Zydeco and Bluegrass music. The Americana Music Triangle is overflowing with the stories and songs, legends and landmarks, struggles and triumphs that created the country’s most powerful cultural export: the music heard all over the world.

Explore the Triangle for yourself on the Gold Record Road, a route connecting New Orleans, Memphis and Nashville and all of the small towns, juke joints, honky tonks and dance halls in between. For music lovers and curious explorers of the world, this trip is an irresistible chance to experience first-hand the bold, gritty energy and creative musical magic of this place in a way that no book, article, or film can match.

The Gold Record Road is a fascinating journey, and AmericanaMusicTriangle.com is your guide. Part historical resource and part road trip planner, this collection of music history sites and attractions has been carefully curated by a team of experts and adventurers focused on answering one question: how did so much music come from one small, unassuming place?

What We Did

The Press Conference
On May 4, 2015, PLA led the official launch of the Americana Music Triangle at the Franklin Theatre in Franklin, TN.

The event was attended by Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam, along with other state and local dignitaries, and tourism leaders. It also featured performances by Grammy Award-winning artists Jim Lauderdale and Keb’ Mo’.

The Launch Tour
PLA also spearheaded the press tour, launching AMT in five states (TN, AL, MS, LA and AK) during the 32nd annual National Travel and Tourism Week. Launch events celebrated cultural attractions unique to their states and region. For the first time, these attractions joined hands across state lines to spread the full story of how the nine musical genres developed in the region’s fields and along its riverbanks, and in its churches, honky-tonks and juke joints.

While fans know well the musical impact of big cities like Memphis, Nashville and New Orleans, the Triangle also embraces the history and contributions of smaller communities, including: Brownsville, TN, Clarksdale, MS, Franklin, TN, Helena, AR, Lafayette, LA, Muscle Shoals, AL, Natchez, MS, and Tupelo, MS.

Social Media
PLA also took charge of establishing, growing and maintaining AMT’s presence on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. AMT also hosts a Spotify playlist, featuring the greatest songs from each of the nine genres that are able to trace their roots to the Triangle.
