PLA Media, a company celebrating an active 25 years in Music City, proudly toasts its roster on the numerous award nominations as we embark on an optimistic scene in 2010. Iconic cowboy singer/songwriter Michael Martin Murphey boasts his 1st bluegrass Grammy nomination for “Best Bluegrass Album” with his hit CD, Buckaroo Blue Grass. The New Music Awards also recognized two newcomers on Lofton Creek Records, Hoyt Hughes and Carla Williams. Hughes is nominated in the Country genre for “New Artist” alongside his label mate Carla Williams. Williams also secured a nomination amongst industry leaders such as Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack as “Country Female Artist.”"I couldn’t have asked for a better start to the New Year,” says President/CEO Pam Lewis. “This industry has ridden a rollercoaster of prosperity and recession since I opened the doors here in 1985. I am proud to see legends like Michael Martin Murphey reinvent himself in the bluegrass genre and my hats are off to the newcomers that are breaking through in this competitive market.”
Michael Martin Murphey released Buckaroo Blue Grass last February on Rural Rhythm Records. The Billboard Top 50 Chart album has generated rave reviews and was chosen by CMT as one of the 10 independent albums that music fans should check out. This album also includes numerous Michael Martin Murphey mega-hits and fan favorites such as “Carolina in the Pines,” “Lone Cowboy,” and many more. The track, “Close to the Land (America’s Heartland),” is now in its fourth year as the theme song for the PBS show America’s Heartland, and includes a video release featuring images from Paul Mobley’s award-winning, coffee table book, The American Farmer.

His Grammy-nominated producer, Eric Paul (whose track record includes teaming with Willie Nelson, Townes Van Zandt, Billy Joe Shaver and Waylon Jennings), praises Hoyt’s extraordinary delivery and ability to connect with the lyrics. “The songs we’ve cut all have potential to be great hits,” says Eric Paul.
